Wednesday Rowdy and I took the kids down to Williams Arizona to ride the Polar Express. Porter was so excited because it is one of his favorite movies. The Grand Canyon Railway Hotel is the one that puts it on. When we got there, there were a lot of people just arriving. It was very cold. Kids and adults were dressed in their pajamas, slippers and robes. We felt a little out of place at first. The hotel lobby and a huge fireplace with a fire and a Christmas tree in the corner. It was a beautiful lobby. You couldn't help but get into the Christmas Spirit. All the children were so excited to ride the Polar Express. The hotel was also decorated outside. It was amazing.
We checked in then went and got our tickets at the "train station." We ate at the restaurant that had a train going around the ceiling. It was pretty cool but hard to get the kids to eat when they would rather watch that more.
We went back and got changed into our pajama's. If we decide to go again, we are definately getting matching PJ's. I couldn't believe some of the outfits worn by adults. One piecer's should be outlawed for adults. :o)
Finally it was time to board the Polar Express. The kids were so excited. We had one hostess dressed like in the movies and one elf. They gave everyone hot chocolate and cookies. It was funny because Porter had to put his hot chocolate under his seat for a minute, just like in the movie. Then he drank it. They had the music from the movie playing. We were on the train for a total of 1.5 hours. A narrator read from the book also on the way to the North Pole.
When we got to the North Pole all the kids ran to the windows. They saw Santa and and elf waving. We looked for a minute then started the trip back. We sang carols on the way back and that was pretty fun. Santa had gotten on the train and gave all the kids a silver bell. It was alot of fun and I think they really enjoyed it. Rowdy and I did too.
We took the kids to see Santa. Porter was very cooperative and talked to Santa but Shandlee did not want anything to do with him. She talked to him on the train but that was it. The picture was taken just as she burst into tears. We thought it was pretty funny. Santa has to put up with so much....

How fun! What a neat thing to do. You'll have to call us if you go again. Your kids are so cute in their PJ's! Yes, poor Santa, Lily wouldn't even go near him! Little Shandlee is so sweet! Your kids look like you! :)
This sounds like such a fun family "bonding" time. glad you had so much fun. At least Shan talked to Santa on the train...I do love the picture though... what cute kids... matching pj's for all 4 of you would have been so much better :0) LOL...
Is it just me or does Santa look a little grumpy? If I were Shan I would be crying too. It does sound like you had a lot of fun that you and the kids will remember for a long time. How FUN!

Porter's looked so surprised in the slide show...how fun, glad you all had a wonderful time...Shan is cute crying or not, and poor Santa looks like he's ready for a nap! matching PJ's, cool ALL one piecers? fun...love ya Mom
I think that would of been a "hoot" to of been on the Polar Express. Probably much better than the Heber Creeper. By the way, I think that's great that PR was peeing outside, especially when you go to the farm in Hurricane or Pine Valley. Love you guys.
